Ronald David Montgomery

Ronald David Montgomery, age 81, of Marshfield, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on October 3, 2024. Born on December 6, 1942, in Bayshore, New York, Ron lived a life full of love, dedication, and determination.

A devoted husband, father, brother, and friend, Ron touched the lives of many with his kindness, humor, and an unwavering commitment to his family. He was known for his generous spirit, always willing to help family, friends, and even strangers in need. He was one of six children and cherished the bond he shared with his five siblings. He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Carmen. Together, they raised three sons—Jerry, Glen, and Sean—who blessed him with six grandchildren, all of whom he adored.

Ron grew up on Long Island New York and attended Islip High School. After graduating, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1960, proudly serving his country for three years during the Cuban Missile Crisis. In the Air Force, Ron served as a technician, repairing aircraft electronics while learning the skills that would help him throughout a long career. Following his military service, he continued his career in the private sector maintaining and repairing a wide range of computer and electronic systems. His career included notable positions at Honeywell, where he serviced early digital computer systems, and at the Massachusetts State Lottery, where he maintained and repaired lottery computers and terminal networks. Later in his career, Ron managed large technical support groups for Printronix, first in the United States and then in Europe while living abroad in Brussels, Belgium.

Ron had a big personality and was known for his sharp wit, love of a good joke, and telling stories. He especially loved fishing with his kids and grandkids. An avid handyman, Ron loved working with his hands and could build or repair just about anything. Ron was also passionate about cars, trucks, and tractors, always eager to share his knowledge, enthusiasm and opinions with others. He was a proud Mason in the Daniel Webster Lodge in Marshfield, Massachusetts.

A wake will be held at the MacDonald Funeral Home in Marshfield on Thursday, October 10, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Christine's Church in Marshfield, MA, on Friday, October 11, 2024 at 10:30 AM. Burial will take place at Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, MA, on October 11 at 1:30 PM.
