Ronald "Ron" Louis Scolamiero, 77, of Marshfield and former longtime resident of Duxbury died peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on December 7th after a 22-year battle with prostate cancer. He was born March 8th, 1945, in Quincy to Guy and Gladys Scolamiero.
He graduated from Braintree High School in the class of 1963 and then attended Northeastern University. He had a long and esteemed career in the worlds of banking and insurance and was also an avid participant in the boating, fishing, tennis and golfing communities on the South Shore.
Ron is survived by his beloved wife of 46 years Laurie (Casler) and his five sons: Scott of Boston, Sean and his wife Pam of South Natick, Todd and his wife Susan of Norwell, Michael and his fiancé Lina of Boston, and Nicholas and his wife Erynn of Boston. He is also survived by his brothers David of Braintree and Ed of Florida and by four grandchildren: Amber, Charlie, Tommy and Ryan.
Ron and Laurie lived in Duxbury for 30 years while raising their sons. It was there that he fell in love with boating, fishing and lobstering. He had many varied interests and had extensive knowledge about so many subjects that his friends affectionately dubbed him "Ronypedia." He was a superb chef who used every pot and pan in the kitchen when he created his masterpieces and Laurie was his sous chef who had the dubious honor of cleaning up after him.
In 2012, Ron began taking part in a clinical trial through MGH that tested the effectiveness of a new drug, Apalutamide, developed by Janssen Pharmaceutical Companies of Johnson and Johnson. The drug kept his cancer at bay for 8 years during which time he spoke several times at J&J conferences to inspire the employees who researched and developed the drug. Ron handled the final stage of his disease with extraordinary courage and dignity and his usual sense of humor.
The family wishes to thank Mass General Cancer Center for their exceptional care and compassion during the many years of his illness. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ron's memory may be made to the Mass General Prostate Cancer Research Fund, by mail to the Mass General Development Office, 125 Nashua Street, Suite 540, Boston MA 02114-1101 or online at https://giving.massgeneral.org/stories/raising-awareness-and-funds-for-prostate-cancer-research
