Obituary

Ronald "Ron" William Stutzman of Duxbury passed away on April 6th, 2024 at the age of 88 after a long battle with Parkinson's Disease. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Barbara, of Duxbury; his daughter Beth Hodnett, of Weymouth; his daughter Suze Genereux and her husband Jeff, of Marshfield; his grandson Kyle Hodnett and his wife Lauren, of Dorchester; and several grandpets.

Ron was born on January 10th, 1936 in Johnstown, Pennsylvania to Herman and Anne (Bender) Stutzman. He is predeceased by his parents and his younger brothers Roger and Kerry but is survived by his sisters-in-law and his many nieces and nephews in Pennsylvania. He moved to Woodlyn, Pennsylvania, where he graduated from Ridley Township High School in 1954. Ron fondly remembered his first job as a paper boy. He formed lifelong friendships, especially the one with his best friend Dawson Turner, who he met in Sunday School.

In 1955, he met Barbara "Babs" Selner after meeting a friend out for ice cream. He went home and told his mother that he had met the woman he was going to marry. And he was right. He and Babs would get married not six months later and be together for 68 years. Up until the end, his only concern was for the care and well-being of his wife.

Ron's career in human resources management for Honeywell, GE, and several other companies brought him and his family to many places and on many adventures. After attending Gettysburg College for one year, he graduated from Drexel University in 1969 with a degree in Business. Ron and Babs began their family with their daughters Beth and Suze in Pennsylvania. The family moved to Florida before finally settling down in Harvard, Massachusetts.

Ron was immensely proud of his service to the United States while in the US Navy. He remained connected with his fellow service members from his time aboard the USS Cony.  He will forever be a "Tin Can Sailor."

Ron and Babs took advantage of all that life had to offer. Both had a passion for antiques, which they turned into their shop in Falmouth, The Keeping Room. The Brimfield Antique Show was a must-see for them every year, and they never left empty handed. Ron was always the one with the biggest tool shed, which he put to good use working on the several colonial houses he and Babs lived in as well as restoring antique lighting and lampshades.

Particularly cherished are the memories of life in retirement on Cape Cod, where the couple built their dream home right on Village Green in Falmouth. They showed their love for their community by working on the gardens in the Village Green, and making sure that the flowers were just perfect.

In 7th grade, Ron picked up the saxophone and never put it down. He was a member of the Harvard, Harwich, Falmouth, and Cape Conservatory town bands in addition to several bands on the South Shore. His favorite types of music were marches and big band.

Ron will be remembered for many things, but most of all he will be remembered for the things he was best at: being a doting husband, a loving father, and beloved grandad. His memory lives on in the lives of those he leaves behind.

A private service will be held for friends and family. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be sent to the Parkinson's Foundation, online at https://www.parkinson.org/ and First Congregational Church of Marshfield, P.O. Box 826, Marshfield MA 02050.
