Obituary

Rosaleen "Gramma Rose" (McCafferty) Cobbett passed away on February 25, 2022 at the age of 90 in her home in Marshfield, Massachusetts. She passed peacefully in her sleep, surrounded by family and her closest friends.
Rose was born in Derry, Ireland, and came to America with her brother Paschal in June of 1952 at the age of 21. After a brief stay with family in Boston, she travelled west and settled in Seattle, where she became a remedial reading teacher, a passion that followed her throughout her life. She was married to James Lyons and had three children, James, Margaret, and Frederick.
Rose moved back to Boston in 1974 where she was welcomed by the kindness and love of her brothers and sisters who had emigrated to America. In 1976, she settled into her "wee house in the marshes" in Marshfield, which was not just her home but her sanctuary.
Rose met the love of her life, Jim Cobbett, in the late 80s, and they shared a full lifetime of adventures together, in Aunt Mary's old farm house in Vermont, in the little house in the marshes, and in the many trips they took together. Those were the happiest moments for her, and while Jim passed away in early 2008, she held him constantly in her memory for all her days.
She is survived by her sister Joella Cowan of Eglington, Northern Ireland, James Lyons of Marshfield, MA, Margaret Lyons and Gary Montoya of Olympia, WA, Frederick Lyons and Nichole Lyons of Puyallup, WA, Christine Wood & Bruce of Hull, Kathryn Hubbard & late Raymond of Enfield, England, Deborah Gomer & Wayne of Kingston, Donna Smith & Brian of New Boston, NH, Charles Cobbett & Derryl of Daniel Island, SC, Rosemary Lambert & John of Wareham. Survived also by 17 Grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. She is predeceased by her dear brother and sisters Vincent McCafferty, Evangeline McLaughlin, Paschal McCafferty, and Loretta Ball, and by daughter Jane Cobbett.
Rose will be honored at a wake on Wednesday, March 2, 2022 between 4:00 and 7:00 p.m. at the MacDonald Funeral Home, 1755 Ocean Street in Marshfield, followed by a funeral mass on Thursday, March 3 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Christine's Parish Church, 1295 Main Street in Marshfield.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Rose's name to the Disabled Veterans Charitable Trust at https://cst.dav.org/
