It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Rosaria Marie Ampola, lovingly known as Rose O’Brien. She passed away peacefully on April 6, 2026, surrounded by her devoted family, after a long illness.
Rose was born in Mission Hill, Boston, Massachusetts, to the late Biagio and Maria Ampola. She was predeceased by her beloved brother, Vincent Ampola. At the tender age of two, Rose was orphaned and placed in the Italian Home for Children in Jamaica Plain, where she was compassionately cared for by the Franciscan nuns who helped shape her early life.
She attended Mission High School and later began her career in the accounting department at the New England Telephone Company.
Rose met the love of her life, Robert O’Brien, and after a three-year courtship, they were married on August 2, 1958. Together, they shared over 70 years of unwavering love and devotion. Rose was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her family was the center of her world and her greatest joy.
She found happiness in painting, crafting, ceramics, cooking and singing. Rose had a deep love for children and was known for her kindness, warmth and gentle spirit towards everyone she met.
Rose is survived by her loving husband, Robert O’Brien of Marshfield, Massachusetts; her three children: Donna Rollins of Weymouth, Massachusetts; Robert O’Brien and his wife Yolanda of Evans, Georgia; and Carolyn O’Brien of Weymouth, Massachusetts. She also leaves behind her cherished seven grandchildren: Nichole, Robert, Eric, Samantha, Allyson, Lindsey, and Abbie; and her five great-grandchildren: Eric, Kaytlin, Emerson, Charlotte, and Logan Rose.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday, April 13, 2026 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the MacDonald Funeral Home, 1755 Ocean Street in Marshfield. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 14, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of the Assumption Parish Church, 40 Canal Street in Marshfield.
