Obituary

Rosemary A Simmons 72, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 27, 2022 with her children by her side.

Rosemary was born August 12, 1950 in Weymouth ma to Ralph and Bernadette (DeCoste) Adam. She grew up in North Weymouth, MA with her parents and two sisters Geraldine Tirrell and Carol Callahan.  Being the baby of the family Rosemary spent much of her youth babysitting for her 11 nieces and nephews.  She loved to spend summers with her family at their cottage in Plymouth where they would swim, catch fish and play cards. She then attended Salem State College where she received a bachelor's degree and began a 30 plus year teaching career.

Rosie or Rose, as her friends called her begin teaching at Broad Meadows Middle school in Quincy, MA where she met the love of her life; Robert Simmons and they spent 47 years together until his passing in December of 2021.

Rose loved teaching her students and used to say the word "Can't" wasn't in her vocabulary.  She believed hard work would get the job done.  Rose went on to teach in the Quincy Public schools, Sinnott School in the non-profit sector and finally ended her teaching career with Dedham Public schools.

Rose and Bob went onto build a life together, having three children, teaching and dedicating what little free time she had to attending church at St. Mary's in Hanover, MA where her family resided for 25 years. Rose also dedicated her time to the Holy Father's Retreat House at Stonehill College and lived Cursillo. She spent many years volunteering for My Brother's Keeper and instilled the importance of charitable giving and volunteering to her children.

Rose went on to form lifelong friendships with her "Weymouth girls" and many friends who became more like family from her teaching career.

In 2015 Rose retired from teaching and began her very import job of becoming a grandmother or "Nana Grammy" as she was affectionately called.  She also took up painting and you can find her work hanging in the homes of those she loved.

She is survived by her children; Erika Simmons Gold and husband Tyler of Marshfield, MA.  Robert B Simmons of Quincy, MA and Matthew T Simmons and his wife Erin of San Antonio, Tx as well as her four grandchildren, Sister in-Law Barbara Kelly of Naples Florida and Brother in-Law Joseph Callahan of Rockland, MA and numerous nieces and nephews.
