Ruth (Hannigan) Fitzgerald, of Marshfield, passed away on August 26, 2022, at the age 76. A cherished mother and grandmother, she is survived by Jayme (Fitzgerald) Moore, her husband Chuck, and her adored grandsons, Charlie (10) and James (8), of Marshfield. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband and best friend, James R. Fitzgerald. Ruth is also survived by her sister, Anne Nelson, and brother-in-law, Peter, of Harwich, along with their three sons, Peter William, Sean, and David, and their families—as well as her step-daughters, Deborah Fitzgerald of Plymouth and Donna Miranda and her husband Wayne of Taunton.
Born in Brockton to the late Tekla and Ralph Hannigan, Ruth blazed her own trail in this world from a very young age. After graduating from Brockton High School in 1964, she went to school to become a paralegal. While working at a large law firm in Boston, she lived in the North End with friends and enjoyed all that the city had to offer. She relocated to Weymouth and married Jim in 1974. A few years later, they settled in Marshfield—in a beach house on Bay Avenue where so many precious memories were made throughout the years with Jayme and their family and friends.
Ruth finished her career as a paralegal at a law firm in Duxbury, working for Attorney Bob Galvin Sr. She also volunteered for many years for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Ruth enjoyed spending time with family and friends out and about around Marshfield, especially at the Green Harbor Yacht Club, where she was a member for more than 40 years. Most of all, she loved the countless hours she spent with Jayme, Chuck, and the boys—most of all, their Sunday visits and dinners and family vacations. Charlie and James loved their Mimi with all their hearts.
