Ruth A. (Mallard) Mccarthy of Middleboro passed away on December 15, 2022 at the age of 92. Beloved wife of the late Joseph F. Mccarthy, Jr., she leaves daughter Anna (husband the late James P. Wall) of W. Yarmouth, Joseph F. Mccarthy, III of Brockton, Maureen Houlihan (husband the late Patrick Houlihan) of Middleboro, and Daniel Mccarthy and his wife Kathy of Middleboro, and is predeceased by a daughter and son in-law Eileen and Tom Bradley of Quincy. Ruth was daughter of the late Leo B. and Stella M. (Bulger) Mallard and was predeceased by siblings Edwin, Russell, and Paul. She was a loving grandmother to many grandchildren and an adored aunt to many in her large family.

A devout Catholic, Ruth worked for the Archdiocese of Boston Catholic Charities in the Brockton and Boston offices for over 30 years. She was a life-long member of St. Anne Parish Church in Raynham, worked in the rectory, and taught First Communion CCD. In her later years, Ruth was member of the Sacred Heart Church in North Quincy, where she was Involved in church choir, rang bells at church services, and volunteered at the Sacred Heart School.

Ruth loved to travel and went on many trips in her lifetime. She was an avid Red Sox fan and enjoyed listening to Irish music. She loved knitting and crocheting in her spare time, as well as watching her favorite television shows Law & Order and West Wing. Her favorite movie was The American President.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 21, 2022, beginning with a wake from 9:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the MacDonald Funeral Home, 1755 Ocean Street in Marshfield, followed by a funeral procession to St. Ann by the Sea Parish Church, 591 Ocean Street in Marshfield, where the Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be in the Couch Cemetery, Union Street in Marshfield.
