Samuel Luis "Sammylou" Gonzalez of Easton/ Plymouth passed away peacefully on April 25, 2026.
Forty-one years is not enough time to hold a life as full as his. And yet, in those years, he gave us more than many people ever do. He gave us laughter, strength, and a kind of presence that you felt the moment he walked into a room.
Sammylou leaves behind his wife of 20 years Barbara Soto-Torres Gonzalez and his three son’s Jomar Soto-Castro also known as Jojo, Samuel Luis Gonzalez also known as Boo-Boo and his youngest son Savant Luke Gonzalez also known as Savvy.
Sammylou was the first born of Mr. & Mrs. Samuel & Carmen Gonzalez leaving behind Marcos, Daniel, Keith, Jayleen, Gabby, Jasmine and Lt. Luis
Sammylou was a pillar to our family, he set the tone. He carried a certain weight, whether he ever said it out loud or not. We always knew we could look up to him. There was a steadiness with him, a toughness, but also a warmth that made you feel safe being around him.
Sammylou was a dedicated veteran who served with the Army National Guard as a Firefinder Radar Operator for Echo Battery, 101st Field Artillery Regiment in Rehobeth. He deployment to North Iraqi support Operation Iraqi Freedom where his duty was to detect, track, and locate enemy mortars, artillery, and rocket launchers. His service reflects his unyielding commitment to a higher purpose, and he carried this same sense of responsibility and dedication into every aspect of his life, inspiring those he considers family.
To all of you, and especially to his sons, I want to say this: Sammylou’s life does not end here. It continues in you. In the way you carry yourselves, in the way you treat others, in the strength you show when life gets difficult. That is his legacy.
Losing him leaves a space that cannot be filled. There is no way around that. But what we can do is carry forward what he gave us. His resilience. His humor. His loyalty. His love for family.
We will remember him not just for how he left us, but for how he lived. For the laughs, the lessons, the strength, and the love. You will never be forgotten, and you will always be loved.
Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, May 5, 2026 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and will conclude with a 2:00 p.m. funeral service at the MacDonald Funeral Home in Marshfield. Burial will be at a later date in the Massachusetts National Cemetery.
