Obituary

Sarah Marie (Coyne) Connor, of Weymouth, formerly of Marshfield, passed away on Monday, July 24, 2017 after a long illness.

Born in 1938 in Dorchester, Sarah resided at Care One in Weymouth for the past four years where she was wonderfully cared for by a team of dedicated nurses and staff. Sally moved to Marshfield in 1969 where she was a founding member of the Brant Rock Association. Over the years she held many jobs, and was known for her years in the ticket booth at the Marshfield Fair. She was a dedicated and longtime volunteer in the Marshfield public schools as well in her parish, St. Ann by the Sea where she was a CCD teacher, an extraordinary minister of Holy Communion, and a member of the choir.

She never forgot the lessons of her immigrant parents who sought work and a home in a new country. She was proud of her heritage and the struggles and the faithfulness of her ancestors. She maintained close relationships with her family in Ireland.

She was a strong woman and presence, a friend of the stranger, the weak and the poor, and was not shy in letting her opinion be known. Her home was open and welcoming.  In the early days it was full of music, friends and plenty of food to feed the crowds, even when times were difficult.  The early loss of her beloved husband was devastating. She worked hard and sacrificed much to raise her children and grandchildren. She was blessed with many incredibly loyal friends.

In these last few years it was the many immigrants who beautifully cared for her and brought her peace and comfort. Many became very close to her and fondly called her, "Mama." She will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved her.

Beloved wife of the late Myles J. (Joe) Connor, Sr. (MPD) Loving mother of James W. Connor (MSP) and his wife, Shawna, of Marshfield, Fr. Sean M. Connor of Weymouth (BPD, Chaplain), Catherine S. Connor-Steele of Plymouth, and Erin M. Connor of Hanover. Sister of the late James F. Coyne, Jr. and his wife, Judith, Mary A. Grueter and Noreen M. Giorgio. Also survived by her grandchildren, Shannon Matthews and her husband Eric, Conor Steele, Joseph, Margaret, Sean and Michael Connor and Mairead Connor-Pierce, as well as many nieces and nephews and extended family and friends.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Wednesday, July 26, 2017 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the MacDonald Funeral Home, 1755 Ocean Street (Rte. 139), in Marshfield.
