Sarah Ann Hurst, aged 72, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, surrounded by her loving sisters Martha Cotter and Deborah Kilkelly, stepdaughter Kathleen Hurst, her niece Janet Ryan, and her best friends Liz Butters and Mary Welch.
Sarah was born in Claddagh, Galway City, Ireland, to Patrick and Catherine Curran. Her father, Patrick, was a proud King of Claddagh. Sarah emigrated to Boston in 1971 and resided in South Boston and was employed by St. Augustine's Priory as a cook for many years, before joining Gillette (now Proctor & Gamble), from where she retired after 30 years of service to reside full time in her much-loved Marshfield.
Sarah was a Marshfield resident for 40 years, where she and her beloved husband, the late Pat Hurst, spent many happy summers in the Blackman's Point mobile home park. She was an active member of the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary, Marshfield Memorial Unit 35, and loved serving the veterans at the Brockton V.A. Hospital, and local veterans and their family members in the community.
She was also an active member of Marshfield Elks Lodge 2492 and devoted many volunteers' hours to numerous Elks projects that benefited many local Marshfield residents and community programs.
She was the loving aunt of numerous nieces and nephews on both sides of the Atlantic, and the beloved stepmother of Kathleen Hurst, and step-grandmother of Michael Patrick Hurst. She was the much-loved friend of many Marshfield residents who loved her wonderful sense of humor and pride in her Irish heritage. She will be sorely missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
