Obituary

Stephen R. Mirarchi, of Marshfield, passed away on October 3, 2018 at the age of 88. Beloved father of Deb Horner and her husband Bryan of Marshfield, Karen Amidon and her husband Ken of Virginia, Leanne Hale and her husband Chris of Pembroke, Lynda Picard and husband Mike of Connecticut, and Stephen Mirarchi and his wife Andrea of Harvard. Dear son of the late Ralph and Theresa (Iacono) Mirarchi and brother of Josephine Burack. Stephen leaves his grandchildren Ashley Streich and husband Bryan and Jess Horner, Nick and Keith Amidon, Josh Hale and wife Eden, Tyler Hale and Lindsay Hale, Rachael, Alyssa, and Anna Picard, Emmalyn and Andrew Mirarchi, one great-grandchild Gia Hale, and two nephews, Stephen and David Burack.

Stephen was born in Chelsea in 1929. He was the second of two children born to Italian immigrants. He graduated from Boston Trade School, where he excelled in woodworking class. Stephen lettered in both track and football. During his senior year as a member of the football team, he played End on both offense and defense for a team that went on to win the City Championship. His love of sports continued throughout his life as he was a big fan of the Boston sports teams, especially the Red Sox and Patriots.

Stephen served his country for eight years in the US Navy Reserve. Professionally, he worked for Graybar Electric for many years and later became a truck driver for Signal Delivery Service, traveling around the New England area making deliveries to Sears stores. He was a long-time member of Teamsters Local 25.

Earlier in his life, Stephen took his children to the Cape where they spent a lot of fun summers vacationing. He really enjoyed the ocean and took great pleasure in swimming in it as well. Stephen relished sitting in the sunshine and feeding the seagulls at the beaches in Dorchester and South Boston. He loved fishing and playing horseshoes. He will be remembered for his favorite saying, "to make a long story short," in which he delighted in making the "story" as long as he possibly could. Stephen truly appreciated homecooked food and he savored every bite of a yummy meal.

Stephen was friendly and kind to all whom he came in contact with, whether it be someone he knew or a perfect stranger in the grocery store. His memory was impeccable and he was able to remember details about the people he met or places he had been to throughout his life. He will also be remembered for his generous and caring nature and for giving him "two quick rings" on his phone as a signal that his children arrived home safely after visiting with him.

It meant the world to Stephen to spend time with his children and grandchildren and he enjoyed being around them. He will be deeply missed.
