ZACCAGNINI, Theresa (McDaniel Montague) of Duxbury, previously of Brighton and Waltham, passed away on May 22, 2021 at the Bay Path Rehabilitation and Nursing facility in Duxbury, at the age of 97.
Theresa Montague was born March 19, 1924 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Brighton, daughter of Edward Montague and Mary (May Gillis). Theresa attended St. Mary's High School for Girls in Cambridge, class of 1942 and enlisted in the U.S. Cadet Nurse Corps, class of 1945. She married U.S. Marine Sergeant Lyle McDaniel in 1945 and after WWII they moved to Peoria, Illinois. They had three sons, Michael, Patrick, and Timothy. Upon Lyle's death in 1953, Theresa and her three sons moved back to Brighton, MA. Theresa reentered the health profession as an EEG Technician at Mass General Hospital.
In 1960, Theresa married Anthony Zaccagnini from Watertown/Newton, MA. He, his daughters Judy and Linda, Theresa and her three sons bought a house in Waltham, MA and began a life together as a "Brady Bunch Family." Theresa was an EEG Technician a Waltham-Weston Hospital and retired in 1975 with 20 years of service. She summered at Duxbury Beach since 1960.
She was predeceased by her sons Patrick and Michael McDaniel and husbands Lyle McDaniel and Anthony Zaccagnini. She leaves behind three children, Timothy McDaniel and wife Leslie of Sturbridge, Linda Zaccagnini and husband Scott Machanic of Wayland, Judy Zaccagnini Flynn and husband David of Duxbury, and daughter in-law Maureen McDaniel of Del Ray Beach, FL.; grandchildren Tracey and husband Steve Miller of Mansfield, Sean and wife Joanne McDaniel of Marshfield, Sara Flynne Annese and partner Steven Flynn McCarthy of Duxbury, Michael and wife Abby Machanic, Rob Machanic of Worcester, Kelly and husband Vito Ronca of Quincy, Casey McDaniel and partner Zach Barkan of Norfolk, VA; and great-grandchildren Julia and Katie Miller, Caroline, Meghan, Ryan, and Lauren McDaniel of Marshfield, Tony Annese of Duxbury, Emma Machanic of Littleton, CO, Marshall Machanic of Bar Harbor, ME, Madison and Myles Machanic of Campton, NH, Lillianna, Braighlynn, and Vito Rocna of Quincy.
Theresa was predecesed by her brothers Edward, John Thomas, and Paul Montague and sisters in-law Elizabeth and Elaine Montague. She is survived by Patrick's wife Linda (Schooner-McDaniel-DeLuca) Judkins of West Yarmouth and sister in-law Ann (Girl Mike) Montague.
Theresa belonged to the Waltham Hospital Workers Association, Duxbury Beach Resident's Association, and Assumption Church in Green Harbor. Theresa's favorite activities included knitting, quilting, reading, swimming at Percy Walker pool, traveling, especially in Europe, Canada, Ireland, Switzerland, Italy and Florida. Her neighbors and friends brought her much joy. She loved her family and truly enjoyed watching them grow, especially in paradise-Duxbury Beach.
Her family would like to thank Bay Path Rehabilitation and Nursing facility and Beacon Hospice Care staff for their compassionate care.
Visiting hours from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Friday, May 28, 2021 at the MacDonald Funeral Home, 1755 Ocean Street in Marshfield, will conclude with a funeral procession to Our Lady of the Assumption Parish Church, 40 Canal Street in Marshfield, for a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. No graveside service will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Joslin Diabetes Center Education Program, c/o Dept. of Philanthropy, Attn: Ms. Christi Gabbay, One Joslin Place, Boston MA 02215 or to a charity of your choice.
