Thomas (Tom) Lloyd Atkins passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 10, 2021 at the age of 76 with his family by his side. Tom worked for almost 50 years at Draper Laboratories in Cambridge, MA. He enjoyed all sports, especially hockey which he played regularly up until recently. He loved the outdoors – boating, fishing and working in his yard and garden. He was especially proud of his roses. He also had an avid love of learning and solving life's puzzles. Whether it was watching videos to improve his golf game, learning how to windsurf in his 50's, or figuring out how to fix things around the house in his own unique way, he always rose to the challenge. Tom was also devoted to family and enjoyed entertaining his grandchildren, grandnieces and nephews, taking them on nature hikes, playing, games and telling stories.
One extraordinary trait of Tom's was his willingness to help anyone in need at the drop of a hat and with zero expectations for anything in return. From helping a stranger with a flat tire, to caring for his widowed mother for 30 years, helping just came naturally to Tom. But perhaps his greatest achievement was his ability to make others feel loved. Not a day went by that his wife, children, grandchildren and family did not feel loved by him, and that is why he will be so deeply missed.
Tom was the son of the late Lloyd P. Atkins and Grace Buchanan, and brother of the late Carol Atkins. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Kris (Cahow) Atkins, daughter Katie, her husband Tim Duggan, his son Thomas, his fiancé Jenny Lobato and his brother Jack Atkins and his wife Ann. He also leaves behind his grandchildren – Kylie, Andrew, Mia, Alex and Sophia, as well as many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a date yet to be determined.
