Thomas F. Cataldo, age 81, passed away on August 14, 2023 after a long battle with cancer. A resident of Duxbury and Marco Island Florida, Tom was born on September 27, 1941, in Squantum, MA to the late William and Elizabeth Cataldo. Tom graduated from North Quincy High School and Bentley College.
Tom married Ruth Anne in 1967, living in Quincy and Marshfield, before settling in Duxbury, creating a loving family and great friendships. Besides his loving wife of 56 years, Tom is survived by his two children and their spouses: Danielle Ladd and her husband, V. J. Ladd, and Matthew Cataldo and his wife, Kristen Cataldo. Tom is survived by his five wonderful grandchildren: Allie Ladd, Sarah Cataldo, Erin Ladd, Christian Cataldo, and Charlie Ladd. He is also survived by his brother Joseph Cataldo. He is predeceased by his brother, William Cataldo and sisters, Elizabeth Faherty, Barbara Harper, and Virginia Shea. Furthermore, he is survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Tom spent 35 years at State Street Bank. Tom always referred to State Street as "We", and was thankful for the many colleagues, mentors, and mentees that he worked with. It was during these years that Tom and Ruth Anne began their love of traveling and continued to do so until recently.
After retiring at age 62, Tom and Ruth Anne spent their winters at Hideaway Beach in Marco Island where he was on the board and enjoyed many of the activities the community offered. He loved watching the Boston Sports Teams. During the summer, Tom enjoyed spending time on the Tommy Sea cruising, swimming at Eagle's Nest, tubing with his family, and beaching at Saquish.
Tom enjoyed life. He was the definition of optimism. He could look outside where there would be clouds and rain and state that the sun was on its way. He enjoyed being with people. Tom loved to host his family and friends with a bountiful meal, cocktails, and plenty of leftovers. No one ever left his home hungry. He taught us many lessons in life but kindness, respect, loyalty, and hard work, were the most important. Tom was always on his phone calling his family and friends to check in and see how they were doing. He had many hobbies throughout his life, including playing tennis, golf, boating, and softball when he was younger. Tom spent many years golfing at Marshfield Country Club and Hideaway Beach, and skiing at Pleasant Mountain. Tom loved watching his grandchildren play sports and attending concerts.
Tom believed life was for the living and he lived every day to the fullest.
