Obituary

Thomas (Tommy) Coyle died peacefully on January 29, 2023, in Weymouth, Massachusetts. Tommy was born on February 27, 1942, in Cambridge, Massachusetts to Thomas J. Coyle Sr. and Helen Kathleen Coyle (Cotter). He had a younger brother and sister, E. Wallace Coyle (Wally) of Marshfield, MA and Mary T. Caleffi late of Coraopolis, PA.

Tommy grew up in Milton and attended Milton Public schools and was later employed by the Patriot Ledger newspaper for 40 years. At one point, he was the most senior employee at the paper. During his time at the Ledger, Tommy worked in both Dispatch and Sales and was welcomed and loved by both employees and external sales customers. Indeed, the Ledger newspaper staff became his second family, and he was a devoted and respected colleague and knew legions of coworkers in all departments of the paper. Tommy loved his interaction with people at all levels, especially the sports department, where he followed all the Boston team. On many occasions he got to meet famous football, baseball, hockey, and basketball personalities visiting the paper.

In addition, Tommy loved swimming, playing horseshoes, and outdoor sports. After a long and memory filled career, Tom retired from the Ledger on St Patrick's Day, March 17, 2007, with a gala "Tom Coyle Day" retirement party hosted by his many friends and colleagues from the paper.

Tommy is survived by his brother Wally of Marshfield (Mary) and his late sister Mary T. Caleffi (Ronald, late) of Coraopolis, PA. In addition, Tommy was the favorite uncle to his many nieces and nephews including Edward Coyle of Pembroke, MA, William Coyle of Marshfield, MA and Cathleen Webster (Scott) of Norwell, Molly Caleffi Czuwara of Pittsburgh, PA (David), Jim Caleffi (Pittsburg, PA), Sally Caleffi Fulkert (Marc, SC) and Steve Caleffi (Yanee) Seattle, WA. Tommy's grand nieces and nephews include Roman Fulkert (SC), Adam and Rachel Czuwara  (PA), Mary Sarkis, Coyle Webster, Dylan Webster (Norwell). Krysti, Tiffany, Haley, Marilyn, and Will Coyle (Marshfield).

The family would like to recognize Elsie Jean Baptiste who was Tommy's caregiver for many years and a blessing to his life.
