Thomas "Tom" Joyce, 85, of Estero, FL, formerly of Kingston, MA, passed away on Sunday, October 18, 2026.
Born on February 3, 1941, Tom was raised in Quincy, MA, the son of the late William and Lillian (Sheehan) Joyce. He graduated from Archbishop Williams High School in Braintree, MA, in 1959. He later attended Burdett Business College in Boston, MA, before graduating from Curry College in Milton, MA, in 1969. Tom also served in the Army National Guard from 1960 to 1963.
Tom and his former wife, the late Marjorie (O'Leary) Joyce, raised their three children in Kingston, MA. He retired from the Whitman-Hanson school system.
For more than two decades, Tom called Estero, FL, home, where he shared his life with his longtime companion, Ruth Taylor. His devotion to Ruth was especially evident in the care and compassion he provided during her final years, remaining by her side until her passing in 2020.
Tom was a man of contrasts. At times quiet and reserved, with a stubborn streak that those closest to him knew all too well, he could also be remarkably gregarious and outgoing. He enjoyed the company of others, and when something truly struck him as funny, his laughter was infectious. It was a laugh that those fortunate enough to hear it would not soon forget.
He is survived by his three children: TJ Joyce and his wife, Cathy, of Plymouth, MA; Stephanie Whouley and her husband, Jamie, of Watertown, MA; and Timothy Joyce of South Carolina.
Tom was the grandfather of five cherished grandchildren: Declan Joyce, Cormac Joyce, Jonathan Joyce, Jory Joyce, and Norah Whouley. He held a particularly special place in his heart for his daughters-in-law, Cathy and Beth Joyce, with whom he shared meaningful and lasting relationships.
Tom is also survived by his sister, Lillian Hannigan of Naples, FL, and his brother, Richard Joyce of Duxbury, MA. He is fondly remembered by Jane (Nagle) Joyce of Boston, MA; Paula (White) Joyce of Duxbury, MA; and Arthur O'Leary of Cohasset, MA, along with his many nieces and nephews.
In addition to Marjorie and Ruth, Tom was predeceased by his parents, William and Lillian Joyce, and his brothers William Joyce, Daniel Joyce, Edward Joyce, and Jack Joyce.
Visiting hours will be held on Saturday, November 7, 2026, from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at MacDonald Funeral Home, 1755 Ocean Street, Marshfield, MA 02050. A closing prayer will conclude the visitation.
While Tom may have been a man of few words at times, his presence, his unmistakable personality, and especially that infectious laugh will remain with those who knew and loved him.
