Thomas F. McHugh of Duxbury passed away peacefully on April 9, 2025, after a long illness, at the age of 86.
Thomas is survived by his beloved partner, Mary (Julie) Carbone; loving father of Mary Rapoza of Marshfield, Linda McGrath and her husband Steve of Duxbury, Thomas McHugh of Marshfield, Kenneth McHugh and his wife Cynthia of Auburn, New Hampshire; cherished Grandfather of Steven, Max, Thomas, Noelle, Matthew, Sophia and Julia; dear brother of Loretta Stacchi and her predeceased husband Sonny, of Bedford MA, Bernie McHugh and his wife Barbara of Surprise, AR, Maryellen McHugh of Fairdale, KY, Jim McHugh who predeceased him and his wife Lisa McHugh of Bel Air, Maryland.
Thomas was born in 1938 to loving parents Thomas and Loretta McHugh whom he was devoted to in their later years. He graduated from Somerville High School in 1956. From high school he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, served for 3 years and was honorably discharged in 1959. He enjoyed a successful career of 35 years with Verizon where he fostered lifelong friendships with many great people whom he spent countless hours golfing with throughout his retirement. In addition, he was a volunteer with the Duxbury Senior Center where he and Julie home delivered Meals-On-Wheels for well over 20 years. Tom was also an active member of the American Legion, supporting many Veterans programs. An avid golfer, he was very proud of his hole in one. Tom is also remembered for his love of High School Sports, the Patriots, train trips, as well as his sense of humor and infectious smile.
Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, April, 22, 2025 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the MacDonald Funeral Home, 1755 Ocean Street in Marshfield. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 23, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at the Holy Family Church in Duxbury, followed by interment in the Mayflower Cemetery.
