Thomas Alexander Scott passed away on April 28, 2020, after a long fight with progressive supranuclear palsy, an uncommon brain disorder. Originally from Boston and then Marshfield, MA, he died at his home in Kingston surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Pamela Scott (Coussons), his daughter, Kait Scott, son Adam Scott and daughter-in-law Sarah (Weston). He also leaves behind his beloved 165-lb Great Dane, Zorro.
Raised in West Roxbury by the late William F. and Alice McDonald as Thomas Paul McDonald, or "Tommy," he is predeceased by his younger brother, William F. McDonald, Jr.. His older sister, Jean Berthiaume, still lives in the home built by their father, and "the cool uncle" will be missed by her sons, Dan and Chris. Tom will be remembered fondly by his wife's sisters, Sue Coussons, Barbara Coussons-Lennon and her son James Lennon, and Laura McGillicuddy, with her husband Andrew and their four children, with whom he spent every Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Though never comfortable with formal education, Tom was a lifelong autodidact and avid do-it-yourselfer. Adventurous at his core, his hobbies as a young man included rock climbing, scuba diving with Pam, riding motorcycles, and flying helicopters, among other adrenaline-pumping pursuits. After an early career in emergency services, including serving as the first Director of Communication for Boston EMS, he worked for nearly 20 years in the network technology industry, building large-scale communication systems for entities like Boston Scientific and offshore drilling rigs in Angola. In later years he volunteered for the Red Cross, and built and operated ham radio stations using the call sign KB1WVL. He loved traveling and having new experiences with his family, and that spirit can be seen in his children, who are deeply grateful for his dedication to enriching their lives.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Tom's memory may be made to CurePSP at www.psp.org or the SPAM Benevolent Fund at www.spambenevolentfund.org. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
