Valerie Smith, 80, of Marshfield, MA, passed away on Wednesday, June 14, 2023. She leaves behind her son David Smith Jr. and his wife Ingrid of Flower Mound, TX, and her grandchildren Haley and Luke Smith of Flower Mound, TX.

Val was born in 1943 to George and Evelyn Young and was raised in Dorchester and Weymouth.  She graduated from Weymouth High School in 1961.

Val was married to David Smith Sr. for 54 years before his passing in 2018.  In their early years of marriage Val worked with Dave Sr. as he established D. Smith Associates along with his brother, Don Smith, in a small office above the garage of their Duxbury home. Val was a constant moral compass and support for Dave Sr. as they built a very successful manufacturing representative business.

Val and Dave made their home on the South Shore of Massachusetts raising their only child Dave Jr. in Marshfield, MA.  Later, Val and Dave moved to Pembroke, MA splitting their time each year between Pembroke and Marco Island, FL.  She was an active resident in the Town of Marshfield in the early years.  That servant mindset would continue later in life as she held roles on the condo board at Hideaway on Marco Island and The Meadows in Pembroke.

Val loved playing Golf and Tennis with her many close friends in Marshfield and Marco Island. Val loved competition and played both sports competitively and was a long-ime member of the Marshfield Country Club.  Despite her competitive nature, Val always had a smile on her face and loved the company of the many close friends she made playing both sports.

Val had a zest for living and a smile that lit up the room. She was friendly to many and loyal to those closest to her. Most will tell you she was never one to shy away from an opinion or position that was important to her. Val will always be remembered as someone you could trust to be honest with you, even if you were not ready for it!

Val was most proud of her beautiful family. No matter who she was introducing them to, her eyes would light up with pride at the opportunity to say "This is my son Davey and his family Ingrid, Haley, and Luke!"

As her health declined, Val moved to Flower Mound, TX to be close to her son and family.  They were grateful for the opportunity to visit her daily, reminisce, laugh, and enjoy quality time together as the time drew near for the Lord to call her home to him. She will be deeply missed by her family and missed too by so many who knew her.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life service at MacDonald Funeral Home, 1755 Ocean Street, Marshfield, on Monday, June 26, 2023 at 4:00 p.m. Prior to the service there will be visiting hours from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. also at the MacDonald Funeral Home.
