Obituary

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our cherished mother, Virginia M. (Nunan) Benedict, age 94, of Marshfield.  Virginia passed away peacefully on July 31, 2024 after a brief battle with pneumonia, surrounded by loved ones.  She was the devoted wife of Herman L. (Ben) Benedict for 68 years and most loving, caring and devoted mother of Maurene Crothers (husband Patrick), Diane V. Benedict, Brian Benedict (partner Sherry) and Jacqueline Bazzinotti (late husband Bill); and cherished grandmother of Brian, Benjamin, Corinne, Kailey, and great-granddaughter Dresden. She is predeceased by her loving husband Ben, granddaughter Alison and sister Barbara Spacco.

Virginia was born in Boston to James J. and Gertrude (Murphy) Nunan of South Boston.  She graduated from Girls Latin High School and completed two years of finishing school. She had a wonderful childhood and often reflected and recounted stories of her parents and three sisters that were absolutely hilarious.  During the depression her father was a truck driver that transported sugar.  Needless to say, everyone's sweet tooth was always satisfied.  That's Virginia's luck of the Irish.  Virginia took tap dancing lessons for many years growing up and was very good.  She regularly performed in dance recitals to her parents' delight wearing beautiful homemade costumes that her mother made.  After graduating school, Virginia worked briefly in the offices of the A&P Supermarket.  Then she met Ben.  They married in 1954, a happy marriage that would last 68 years.

Ben and Virginia raised their family in South Weymouth then Marshfield.  Virginia was a stay-at-home mom and homemaker. Later she worked for Jordan Marsh for many years in their jewelry department.  She loved that job.  Virginia dedicated her life and love to her husband and children.

Virginia was the most loving, caring wife and mother anyone could have.  She was beautiful, classy, funny, kind, selfless and thoughtful. Her family will forever miss her, her love, strength and guidance.  She will always live in our hearts.

Virginia will be deeply missed forever by all who knew her.
