Obituary

Virginia (Ginny) Charrier passed away on March 12, 2024 at the age of 92. Ginny was born to Elizabeth and John Cleary in February of 1932. She was predeceased by her husband of 52 years, William. Ginny was the loving mother to William Jr and Diane of Pembroke, John of Scituate, Stephen and Jenni of Orono MN, and Lisa and fiancée Mick of Newport RI. She was grandmother to Craig, Jenna, Justin, Nicole, Danielle, Noele, Rebecca, Emily, Alexander, David, Daniel, Austin, Andrew, and Adam. She was great-grandmother to Delaney, Becham, Quincee, Rose, Violet, and Isla.

Ginny was born in Kingston, NY. Her father John passed away when she was very young. Ginny and her mom Elizabeth relocated to Boston in 1938.  As a young student she excelled in languages, both English and multiple foreign languages. During her high school years she was champion in multiple spelling bees sponsored by the Boston Herald.  She also participated as a majorette in the high school marching band.

Shortly following her school years, she met the love of her life and married Bill in July 1954. Rumor has it she was proposed to by Bill via telegraph while he was in the service and aboard ship off the coast of Europe, post WWII.

As a young family, they made the move to Scituate in 1959 and raised four children. Ginny and Bill bought their first home in the new development on Minot Light Ave. They were dedicated parents and would take the family on yearly vacations. It was during these vacations the kids learned to ski, an activity that they all still participate in and have passed on to their families.

Some of their family vacations involved traveling in various vehicles and camping trailers. Later they would purchase their own large fifth wheel trailer. When they finally retired, they hit the road and traveled the USA. They actually traveled to all connecting 48 states and even made it to Alaska.

In 1997 they settled in Naples, Florida and purchased the home they planned on living out their retirement.   They became involved and immersed themselves in the community and participated in all of the social activities. The new friends they made there would become friends for life.

Bill passed away unexpectedly in 2006. Ginny remained in the community in Naples and kept herself quite busy with her close friends.  Each summer, she would return to New England to spend the season with her children. She would stay with each of them and their families.  Ginny would split her time with them and move from here on the South Shore, to Newport RI and to Minnesota.

In 2017 mom decided it was time to head home to be close to family and returned to New England, making her home in Tiverton, RI.

Over the course of her life, she survived 39 years as a breast cancer survivor. Ginny was an avid reader and would never be without a book, always asking friends and family "what is good and new".  While living in Naples she took up swimming and would make an activity most mornings. The ability to swim played a large part on the decision on where to live when she came back up north. She was able to continue to swim until she was in her 90's. She was so good and confident with crossword puzzles she would do them in ink. She would spend hours with the NY Times puzzles and share them with her two sisters in-law, Mary and Linda.

Ginny never stopped, always kept busy and lived a very full life.

She will be missed every day.
