Macaulay, Wallace L. 91 of Duxbury, April 10, 2015. Beloved husband of 66 years of Elizabeth (Bohle) Macaulay. Wallace is predeceased by his son Peter L. Macaulay and son-in-law- Lawrence "Skip" Adams. Survived by his wife, daughter Susan M. Adams and her companion Michael McFarland of Marshfield, daughter-in-law Nancy Macaulay of Plymouth, three grandchildren, Kelly Atkinson, Jeffery Adams and Scott Adams and eleven great grandchildren. Also survived by his devoted cat Otis.
Born in Manchester, NH to J. Colin and Doris (Staples) Macaulay in 1923. He graduated from Manchester West High, where he lettered in three sports, and from Tilton Academy. He then served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the 78th "Lightning" division in the European theatre. After his honorable discharge from the military, he attended the University of New Hampshire graduating with a B.S. in business administration. He began his career working in sales for the Burroughs Corp, relocating to Duxbury, Ma in 1956 upon his transfer to the Boston office. His career turned to banking when he was hired as Assistant Treasurer of The Rockland Savings Bank. During his employment with Rockland Savings, he attended The Brown University Graduate School of Savings Banking, graduating with honors. He became President of Rockland Savings in 1971 and served until his retirement in 1987. He remained a trustee of the bank through 1992. He served as President of Credit Data of Southeastern MA and served on the board of directors of Credit Data of New England, Inc. He was a member of Marshfield Country Club since 1956. He served on the Board of Governors and was a past (two term) President of the club. He also played in the Old Colony League and was a captain for the MCC Old Colony Seniors. He played tennis at the former Mill Pond Tennis Club, now the YMCA, in Hanover in the Seniors' league until his late eighties. A longtime Duxbury resident, he coached Little League and served on the town's Finance Committee.
Memorial visiting hours will be held at the MacDonald Funeral Home, 1755 Ocean Street, Rte 139, Marshfield on Sunday, April 19, from 2 to 4 PM.
A Memorial Service will be held at 4:00 PM.
Interment will be held at a later date.
