Walter Adams Bingham, Jr., passed away on May 13, 2020 at his home in Duxbury, of chronic lymphocytic leukemia. He was 89 years old.
Walter was a Veteran of the U.S. Air Force and served during the Korean War. He began his journalism career with Sports Illustrated in 1955 and continued with the magazine until his "retirement" in 1988, after which he stayed on as a freelance journalist for another 12 years.
Walter began spending summers in Truro at age 15 and maintained a lifelong love of the town and the Cape. In 2002, Walter began writing a sports column for the Cape Cod Times. His last column ran just a few weeks ago in April. Here is a link to the wonderful tribute the Times ran in today's publication: https://www.capecodtimes.com/sports/20200513/popular-cape-cod-times-columnist-walter-bingham-dies-at-89
Walter was the beloved husband of Betty (Bredin) Bingham and loving father of Liza Bingham of Cambridge, Amy Kang (husband Ishak) of California, Eric Bingham (wife Catherine) of Truro, and the late David Bingham. He was the cherished grandfather of Caroline and Connor Bingham and DJ and Zander Kang. Walter also leaves a sister, Frances Keir of Florida, and three nieces and three nephews. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
A Memorial Service will be held in Truro at a later date.
