Obituary

Walter H. Leonard, of Duxbury, beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on November 30, 2020 at the age of 70. He was the loving husband of Elizabeth H. (Carey) Leonard; dear father of Elizabeth (Emily) Trostel of Vermont, Erin (Danny) Weaver of Vermont, Rachel (Aaron) Schultz of Florida, and Sarah Leonard of Connecticut; cherished grandpa of Emma and Andrew Weaver and Camden, Audrey, and Madeline Schultz; brother of Christine Moscatiello of Pocasset, Margaret (Bruce) Ekholm of Falmouth, and the late Bryan and Eleanor Leonard.

A devoted and loving family man, Walt enjoyed 43 years of marriage with his wife, Liz. Destined to be the father of daughters, he was blessed with four of them. Each one of his "girls" is grateful for his love and unwavering support. Walt was quick witted and delighted in being one of the first people to elicit a genuine belly laugh from his grandchildren. He brought a lightheartedness and steadfast calm to every room. He enjoyed weekly conversations with his sisters, who remember their brother as someone they looked up to and relied on.

Walt had a sharp financial mind and valued responsibility — a work ethic he instilled in his daughters. He loved and lived fully. He enjoyed reading a book with his feet in the sand on the beach and keeping his golf ball away from the bunker on the golf course. An avid cook and skilled bread baker, Walt often spent weekends trying out a new recipe and cooking for his family and friends. A homemade loaf of bread was his gift to show how much he loved you. Even as his health faded, his greatest joy was sharing a special meal at home around the table.

Walt lived a life that reflected his Catholic faith and humanitarian values. Generous and endlessly optimistic, friends and family sought him out for advice and viewed him as a leader who left a positive impact on all he encountered. He will be greatly missed, but remembered and celebrated always.

A Funeral Mass to celebrate his life and legacy will be held on Saturday, December 19, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. in the Holy Family Church, 601 Tremont Street in Duxbury, MA. The church requires that all attendees wear masks and follow COVID-19 social distancing guidelines.
