Walter Francis Mann (93) of Carver and Brant Rock, passed away on August 12 at Tobey Hospital. Walter was born in Whitman, MA the son of Thomas and Nellie Mann, the youngest of six children. He was educated in Whitman schools. Walter joined the US Army during WWII. He was assigned to the Army Air Corps in Germany as a finance clerk.
After his discharge, Walter moved to Brant Rock where he met the love of his life Joan Campbell. They enjoyed 57 years of marriage until Joan's passing in 2007.He worked at the original Tedeschi Supermarkets (later Stop & Shop) until retirement in 1990. In retirement he remained very active. He and Joan took annual road trips around the US each summer. He was an excellent bowler from youth through his late 80's. He loved playing poker, participating in many leagues. At the age of 91, he won the annual Monponsett Texas Hold'em tournament.
Walter will be remembered as a soft-spoken, kind and gentle human with a heart of gold.
He is survived by his six children: Cheryl of Plymouth, Walter Jr. ("Chip") and his wife Janice of Townsend, Thomas and his wife Jodi Solomon of Boston, Claire of Wareham, Susan Lorenzetti and her husband Peter of Reading, and Lysa of Harrington, Delaware as well as 8 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his infant daughter Mary and grandson Brett Mann. He also leaves behind his longtime companion Dorothy Noble.
A Graveside Service will be held for Walter and Joan on Wednesday, August 31, 2022 at 12:45 p.m. in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
