Walter F. Schuchard, Jr. (Rick) Entrepreneur, of Marshfield, MA passed on Friday, July 23 after a health battle. Rick grew up in Hingham, making friends in Bradley Woods then later Main Street, who have shared their lives through high school and to this day. After graduating from Marietta College, he started his family with his first wife Penny within the following year. They had four children. He then married the love of his life, "Tish", and the family grew larger with his fifth child. He loved to gather with friends and family to share history, stories and laugh – he always had an open-door policy and loved the potluck "loaves and fishes" concept. Rick and Tish were kindred spirits, they never needed a reason to gather, whether in good or bad times or just because nothing else was going on; it was always a good time to gather with friends by his fireplace.
Walter, known to friends and family as Ricky, built and managed his marketing firm for several decades with his loyal friend and colleague, Geraldine Fish. He was proud of his academic and professional accomplishments, as well as of those of his wife, children and grandchildren as they received various academic and professional titles including bachelor's & master's degrees, various licenses, and titles including entrepreneur, assistant vice president, regional manager and author. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved flyfishing, reading, sailing, hunting, photography, horseback riding and watching the Patriots play. He fostered characteristics within himself that he saw in his heroes including FDR and Churchill; but Rick's true legacy was laughter. Rick led by example, often laughing loudest at himself, and in doing so, fostered resiliency, strength, and the expectation to get back up when you fall. Rick and his children share a certain clumsiness which provided countless literal examples and constant comic relief.
Rick was the beloved husband of Patricia "Tish" O'Neill Schuchard and proud father of Michele and husband Todd Kelley of Halifax, Chrisanne and husband Mitch Wilson of Plymouth, William F. Schuchard of Acton, Amy and husband Jamie Carey of Pownal VT, Daniel E. Schuchard of Salt Lake City, UT and his "Irish daughter", Iris McCarey. He was blessed with many grandchildren, Elicia Kelley, Blake Carey, Maxwell Schuchard, Angela Kelley, Jacob Schuchard, Evan Wilson and Nolan Wilson. He was the oldest son of Walter and Margaret Schuchard, survived by Schuchard brothers Peter, Robert and David, and pre-deceased by sisters Margaret Soltez and Nancy Schuchard, he also leaves many nieces and nephews.
