Wayne Andrew Forester passed away peacefully on December 24, 2023, at his home in Marshfield with his loving wife by his side.
Wayne was born in Quincy in 1932, the first son of Rose and Andrew. He graduated from Weymouth High School in 1950. In 1949, he was the State Class B high hurdles champion. In his youth, he had a passion for fly-fishing. As a member of Old Colony Boy Scout Troop Two, he spent three summers camping and traveling extensively across the United States. He attained the rank of Eagle Scout.
Wayne graduated from Harvard University, Class of 1954. In subsequent years he earned a B.S. (University of State of New York), M.Ed. (Bridgewater State University), and a Ph.D. (Walden University). Along the way he served 7 years in the United States Marine Corps Reserve. Wayne dedicated his professional career to education. In 1973, he led one of the first trips to the USSR for high school students as Ambassadors of Friendship during the US/Soviet détente era. He taught in Kingston and Scituate and was a guidance counselor/school psychologist at Braintree High School. For over three decades, he influenced the lives of countless students, many of whom maintained relationships with him for years after retirement. Among his lifelong interests were Naval History (Universal Ship and Cancelation Society), Philately (Boston Philatelic Society), gardening, and the spirituality of nature.
Wayne is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary, his three children, Loreen (Robert), Scott (Christy), and Alyson (John), and his nine grandchildren, Noelle (Brian), Grace, Martin, Folena, Lily, Lauren, Jack, John, and Fiona. He is predeceased by his brother, Deane, and his first wife, Loreen.
Memorial services will be held at Saint Christine's Church in Marshfield on Saturday, January 6, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Wayne's memory to the Norwell VNA and Hospice, by mail to 120 Longwater Drive, Norwell, MA 02061 or online at https://www.nvna.org/ or to the Marshfield Food Pantry, by mail to P.O.
