Wendell Calvin Chandler (Cal) born February 24, 1945 in Plymouth, passed away peacefully at his home in Middleboro at the age of 77. He was survived by his best friend and loving wife Janice Macomber Chandler. Devoted father to Nancy A. Powell and husband Neil H Powell III (Tod) of Marshfield and Wayne C. Chandler and wife Ellen M. Chandler of Middleboro. He leaves behind a brother Kenneth B. Chandler and his partner Judy MacLean of Montana. Loving Grandfather of the late Melanie J Powell, Stephen C Chandler, Caitlin E Chandler, Spencer J Powell, Olivia G Chandler. In addition, he was survived by four beautiful great grandchildren, three sister in-laws and their husbands, several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Cal lived and worked in Marshfield his entire life until 2004 when he retired and moved to Middleboro. He was the former owner of Chandler's Gas Company of Marshfield which was founded by his father Guy O. Chandler and later operated with his brother Ken. His hobbies included a love of gardening and raising animals. Cal would save injured or baby birds that have fallen out of their nests and nurse them back to health! Over the course of his lifetime he raised and cared for dogs, chickens (some self-hatched), turkeys, ducks, quail, peacocks, guinea hens, a robin (Robby) and his dove named "Lucky". His garden was a thing of perfection and had several rows of mature blueberry bushes that would produce award winning blueberries! The fruits of his labors were enjoyed by the members of his friend and family, especially his grandchildren who would visit Papa's house to go blueberry picking. During his elder years Cal would enjoy the simple task of watering his plants or a ride around the yard on his lawn mower!
Calvin will be buried in the Couch cemetery with a small private service to be held on Friday September 9, 2022. A celebration of life to be held at a later date attended by close family and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a Parkinson research foundation of your choice ( www.parkinson.org or www.michaeljfox.org ) as Calvin had suffered from Parkinson's Disease since 2003.
