IN LOVING MEMORY OF
William "Bill"
A. Carpenter, Sr.
November 29, 2019
William A. Carpenter, Sr., age 60 of Rockland, passed away on November 29, 2019. Beloved husband of Sharon (DeLorey) Carpenter; loving father of William A. 'Little Bill' Carpenter, Jr. (Courtney Lennon) and Lisa L. Carpenter (Jeffrey Ricciardi), all of Rockland; cherished grandfather of Lacey and William Carpenter. Son of the late Ramon A. and Louise (Doyle) Carpenter, Bill leaves his siblings Janice Gilmore of Middleborough, Jeanne Acton of Alaska, Barbara Carpenter of Michigan, and Michael Carpenter of Oregon.
William A. Carpenter Sr. was refered to as "Big Bill" since he has a son that is the second generation, so naturally Big Bill and Little Bill, but that did not last for long as "Little Bill" is about a half of a foot taller if not more. Bill was a native of Rockland and never really left Rockland for too long, you could call him a "townie" of sorts. Being a "townie" also stretched into Marshfield. He owned and operative Bill's Service and Repair with his loving wife of 40 years Sharon, and his son "Little Bill". He was the perfect picture of a small business owner, who gave back to the community and would help just about anyone in need. Often times he would come home with a lawn mower or who knows what (that didn't work and he knew that), because someone was not able to pay their bill. He would stop what he was doing to help a someone out, whether that be to check the postal trucks oil or fix a flat for a client. He was also a proud master mason of the Daniel Webster Lodge located in Marshfield, and enjoyed spending time with his "brothers" at the lodge, they were like a second family to him.
Bill was a family man, he had two grand children that meant the world to him. William (aged 4) and him would go out to the chicken coop to check for eggs, or ride some sort of all terrian vehicle around the yard. It was pretty commical at times to see a grown man in a jeep scooting around the back yard with a child on his lap. You always knew he was up to no good when that grin was ear to ear and William was giggling. He spent very special moments with Lacey (aged 9) as well, those moments included drinking chocolate milk, scaring her or just making a bunch of noise. He could not go to a store without bringing some sort of toy back for the kids. These children were his world, and he loved them very much.
Bill also had two adult children, "Little Bill" aged 30 and Lisa aged 24. The "Bills" ran the automotive shop, ate lunch together daily, and always pertaked in banter, with Sharon included. The stories they would come home with were unimaginable and always left you wondering what in the world is going on. "Little Bill" and his son William were passed on the traits of being handy with tools, and a love for alternative vehicles from "Big Bill". "Little Bill" was his right hand man for many years, and helped build his business and grow their love of the automotive industry.
Bill and his daughter Lisa, had a relationship like no other. Most of their relationship was spent with Lisa calling him "Princess" which if you know Bill is looking for trouble. The fact was they had alot of nicknames for eachother like "muskrat", "grasshopper" and "Baby Lisa". One thing that Lisa will be forever thankful is the love her father had for her Fiancee Jeff. Everytime Bill would see Jeff he would take him on a little tour and discuss all the new toys and gadgets "he found". One of her fondest memories was when Jeff asked Bill for his daughters hand in marriage, which left an awkward Bill saying obviously you are already my son in law, with tears in his eyes, yeah we said it tears.
Bill was married to Sharon for 40 years, which is just incredible. Sharon really understood him like no one else. She was always patient with him, and loved him unconditionally. Bill was known as a "wild child" when he was in his early adulthood, and went over Sharon's parents house and asked if she could come out and play, the rest was history. Now, Sharon's father Albert De Lorey is a retired police officer, so it took some guts to walk up to that house and ask a man in uniform to see his daughter. He knew what he wanted, and that turned into a marriage of 40 years with an amazing woman. Bill and Sharon spent all of their time together, and those memories will always be in her heart.
