IN LOVING MEMORY OF
William "Bill"
C. Wattendorf, Jr.
December 30, 2021
Bill (William C.) Wattendorf Jr., age 54, Marshfield resident and Scituate business owner, passed unexpectedly at his beloved home in Brant Rock on December 30, 2021. Bill was raised in Milton and moved with his family to Scituate's Third Cliff at a young age. Here, Bill became enamored with the ocean, beach, and adventure - utilizing Scituate's Rivermoor and Spit Beaches as his playgrounds. It was also in this Third Cliff neighborhood that he established forever friendships bound by infamous stories.
He was the son of the late William C. Wattendorf, Sr. and Mary (Phillips) Wattendorf. Bill was the proud and loving father of Chloë Jayne Vitali and his dogs Buddy and the late Buffet. He was the birth son of Lois Johnson Losch and the late William D. McColgan. Bill was the adored brother of Maryann Wattendorf and husband Ed Marcantonio, Susan Shawn and husband David, Katie Miller Busch and husband Jason and the late Sarah Losch. Bill was uncle to Julia, Emily, Nikki, and McKinley, and was close with many of his cousins.
Those who knew Bill as a friend knew him to be a caring, loyal, and energetic spirit and were likely to find a lifetime of friendship. He graduated from Boston College High School in 1985. In 1986 Bill founded The Grass Man, which was owned and operated until the time of his death. Bill enjoyed reading and journaling - he had a published essay detailing his experience with adoption included in the book Birthright by Jean A.S. Strauss (1994). Bill's long-held senses of adventure and curiosity pushed him to explore new places and cultures. His most favorite and impactful travels were those to Mexico, Southeast Asia, and Central America. Pieces of his heart will always reside in Crested Butte, CO and South Florida.
Bill memorialized his time with friends and his travels in journals, photos, and scrapbooks as well as a wide repertoire of stories. Bill will be remembered as a sentimental and passionate individual who loved deeply and cherished moments with loved ones.
At the young age of 25, Bill purchased his notorious waterfront home in Brant Rock, a community he immediately loved and has become known as a fixture of. He found great joy in music and hosted many nights of jam sessions with friends on the deck of his home, overlooking the ocean.
