Coughlin, William Patrick, a 42-year resident of Marshfield, passed away on February 24, 2016 at the age of 86. Beloved husband of the late Annie Laura (Lupton) Coughlin. Loving father of James "Jimmy" M. Coughlin of Bethel, WA and the late Donna Lecuyer of North Carolina. William leaves a sister, Ruth Hamel of Connecticut and his 4 grandchildren Donna, Billy, Jimmy, and Jason.
A graduate of Mission Church High School, William attended Boston College before embarking on a career in journalism in 1944 as a reporter at Record American. He enrolled in the U.S. Navy in 1950, where he continued his work as a Navy Journalist. After discharge from the Navy in 1954, William became a reporter for the Boston Globe, where he put his love of sailing to good use as a Maritime Reporter, and retired after 30 years with the newspaper. Throughout his career in journalism as well as in retirement, William was a documentary film writer who produced many short movies.
Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, March 1, 2016 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the MacDonald Funeral Home, 1755 Ocean Street (Rte 139) Marshfield. Funeral from the funeral home on Wednesday, March 2, 2016 at 9:00 for a 10:00 a.m. Funeral Mass at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 40 Canal Street, Marshfield. Interment in Massachusetts National Cemetery at Bourne will follow at 12:30 p.m.
