William D. Hahn, 76 of Marshfield Hills, died at his home on Monday, October 22, 2018 after a lengthy and hard-fought battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his immediate and extended family.
He was sadly predeceased by his wife Mary (Fink) in 2009. Bill was the loving father of Jill Mandile and husband Brian of Marshfield, Jonathan Hahn and wife Susan (Kelley), of Norwell. He adored his five granddaughters, Alexandra Mandile, Margaret Mandile, Katherine Mandile, Gillian Hahn, and Mallory Hahn, who will greatly miss his sweet and gentle way.
Bill was born and raised in North Fond du Lac, Wisconsin by Herman and Jean Hahn. Upon graduating from the University of Wisconsin, (Milwaukee) he contemplated joining the seminary but chose a career in the insurance industry instead, at the persuasion of his high school sweet heart Mary R. Fink, whom he married in 1964. After spending time in Chicago, IL, Detroit, MI and Hartford, CT, the Hahn's found a new home in Marshfield, MA in 1970, where they built a lifetime of friendships. Bill pursued a new episode in his insurance pursuits as a risk management consultant. His career culminated with the opening of the Boston office of Palmer & Cay Insurance in the late 1990's.
Bill's love of the outdoors was a testament to his upbringing and innate in all he enjoyed. As an avid hunter he enjoyed the navigation of the woods as much as the hunt. He embraced this further on the water while cruising and fishing on the waters of the east coast. This passion was spawned by his friend Scott and further shared with both family and friends instinctively. Many who knew Bill, were aware of his love of gadgets to keep his mind sharp. The Gadget Guy had many cameras, flashlights, generators and batteries, to be ready for any Nor 'Easter!
Cherishing time with family and friends was only enhanced through his relationship with the Episcopal Church, where he devoted untold hours to Trinity Church Marshfield Hills for nearly 50 years. Through his love of music and a stint in a folk band, Bill led many merry gatherings at Trinity and considered these offerings, rather than service, to the congregation.
His sense of humor and one liners will be missed by all, but especially his five granddaughters. Each Granddaughter uniquely held a spot in his heart forever. He was a pro at writing their birthday poems and remembering their special day!
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm at Trinity Episcopal Church, 229 Highland Street, Marshfield, MA.
In lieu of flowers, Donations can be made to the Mary Hahn Steeple School Scholarship Fund of Trinity Church Scholarship sent to Steeple School. P.O. Box 397, Marshfield Hills, MA 02051.
