William Lyons, lovingly known as Bill, passed away peacefully at home December 16, 2025. He is survived by his wife of 59 years Arlene S. (Barwell) Lyons and his two daughters, Allison Lyons-Hook and her husband George Hook, of Boxborough MA and Donna (Lyons) Post and her late husband Keith Post of Bellingham, MA
Bill was predeceased by his father James M. Lyons, mother Anna (Steele) Lyons and brother James M. Lyons of California, who is survived by his wife Laura and their two children Jonathan and Lisa.
Growing up in Quincy Point, Bill enjoyed swimming in the quarries and searching for treasures in old junk cars with classmates.
Bill was a United States Army Veteran serving from 1959-1962 with an honorable discharge. He was stationed in Turkey and Germany as a Morse Code Interpreter. He retired from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts in 2009 where he was a Systems Analyst.
Before becoming a family man, Bill and Arlene had some fun date nights on the South Shore: Demolition Derby's, wrestling matches and walking on the beach.
Bill was involved in Allison & Donna's activities, whatever they may have been. This included being a Girl Scout Troop Leader.
He and Allison attended many military air shows. His favorites were The Blue Angels, The Thunderbirds and the A10 Warthog. The days were spent watching the demonstrations and trying to avoid sunburn.
Donna was his second pair of hands always around to assist when he was building or working in the yard: grab a screw, pick that up, where's the hammer! He enjoyed working with his hands and could build anything: porches, sheds, even an outhouse!
In later years, Bill and Arlene got the travel bug and went on cruises to different locales: various ports in Europe, Hawaii, the Panama Canal and Alaska, where a glacier walk was a particular favorite.
Bill's other interests included astronomy, model trains, bird watching, watching the Boston Red Sox, and of course a good nap was always welcomed. He was always up for a good chat with the neighbors or lending a helping hand.
He didn't always have a lot to say but when he did, look out! It could be a one-line zinger or he would talk your ear off. You never knew what you would get.
His daughters' friends were always welcome in the house. Especially Donna's friend Andrea, who Bill and Arlene considered a third daughter.
