MAYE, William F. of Marshfield, MA, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Tuesday, November 23, 2021 at the age of 81. Bill was born in the St. Mark's Church Parish in Dorchester, MA to Patrick and Katherine Maye. He was the beloved husband of Bridget (McDonough), originally from Carraroe in Co. Galway, Ireland. He convinced the beautiful "Red" to move across an ocean to start a life with him in America. And what a life! Their 61-year love story, and 59-year marriage, was as inspirational as it was enduring. Bill was also the loving father to three daughters Cathleen Maye of Marshfield, Karen Maye of Marshfield, and Patrice Maye and her husband Jay FitzGibbons of Scituate; and he was the cherished "Poppa" to grandsons Cole and Declan FitzGibbons of Scituate. Bill also leaves his sister Mary Cushing of Hanover; his niece Lauren LaCara and her daughters Tracey and Lucy of Hanover; and a large, extended family of in-laws, nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews in Ireland. He was predeceased by his sister Ann Maye.
In Bill's public life, he was recognized for his sharp mind and business acumen. A double eagle, he was proud to pay his own tuition to both Boston College High School and Boston College, from which he graduated with high honors with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting. He received a Certificate of Honorable Mention from the Massachusetts Board of Public Accountancy for receiving the third highest mark on his CPA exam. Bill began his career as a Certified Public Accountant at Haskins & Sells (now Deloitte & Touche) before joining Sullivan Bille, P.C. as a Shareholder/Partner in 1976. During his tenure at Sullivan Bille PC, he worked closely with expanding business enterprises in manufacturing, technology, construction, financial, supermarkets, wholesale and real estate in rendering professional services, including financial, tax and management advisory services. In 1989, Bill became President of Sullivan Bille, a position he held until he retired in 2008; and he remained a Shareholder until his death.
Bill was always generous of spirit, giving of time and resources. He served on the Executive Committee for the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, on the Board of Directors and Senior Technical Committee for the Massachusetts Society of Certified Public Accountants, Inc.; and on the Board of Directors and Chair of the Finance Committee and Treasurer for The Great Lowell Family YMCA.
Those who knew him well will attest to Bill's convivial nature. He had a razor wit, a love of puns and a delight in mischief. He was a gentleman and a gentle man, always leading by example. But his family was his hobby. He liked nothing more than strolling Rexame beach, hand-in-hand, with his Irish bride.
