William “Bill” J. McCarthy, Jr., passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love, family, friendship, and a life well lived. A longtime resident of Marshfield and entrepreneur, Bill was known for his warm spirit, dedication to his family, and passion for the game of golf.

Bill was predeceased by his beloved wife of 50 years, Nancy Jean McCarthy; his parents, William J. McCarthy, Sr. and Alice McCarthy; his brother, Peter McCarthy; and his sister, Mary Alice Baker.

He is survived by his loving siblings: Paul McCarthy, Francis (“Frankie”) McCarthy, Kathy Dulls, Jo Ellen Tague, Michelle Kingston and her partner, Larry Reardon.

Bill was father to Lynn Scuderi and her husband, M. Bruce Scuderi, of Tennessee; Audra McElhenny and her husband, Michael McElhenny, of Maryland; and Garrett McCarthy and his fiance Brooke Fowler of Florida. He was also a cherished stepfather to Dona Fraenkel; Karen Kemp and her husband, Mark Kemp: Jodi Kurash and her husband, Jeffrey Karash All will miss him deeply.

His legacy continues through his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought him immense pride and joy. He is survived by Joseph McElhenny and his wife, Kayla, and their children, Grace and Lucy; Michael McElhenny; Claire McElhenny; John McElhenny; Michael Bowen; Nicole Russell and her husband, Owen, and their children, Vivienne and Thomas.

Bill is also fondly remembered by his many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends whose lives were enriched by his kindness, humor, and generosity.

A veteran, Bill served his country in the United States Air Force. Following his military service, he built a career as an entrepreneur and became a well-known member of the Marshfield community. One of the longest members of the Elks of Marshfield.

Those who knew Bill knew that golf was one of the great joys of his life. Whether he was playing a round with friends, teaching others the game, crafting golf clubs, or watching a tournament on television, golf brought him endless happiness. He shared his enthusiasm for the sport with everyone around him and was known for the joy and camaraderie it brought to his life.

Bill also appreciated life's simple pleasures—a good meal, a good book, and time spent with family and friends. He and Nancy enjoyed many happy years living near the ocean, both in Marshfield and in St. Augustine, Florida, places that reflected their shared love of the coast and the peaceful beauty of the sea.

Bill will be remembered for his devotion to family, his service to his country, his entrepreneurial spirit, and his ability to find joy in everyday moments. His presence will be deeply missed, but the memories he created and the love he shared will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He is with Nancy again. "Those we love don't go away; they walk beside us every day."

Services will be held privately. The family wishes to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers during this time.
