Obituary

William (Bill) H. Sheehan of Marshfield, MA, born March 25, 1944, in Quincy, MA, to the late Harold D. Sheehan, formerly of Lynn, MA, and the late Hazel V. Sheehan (Pope), formerly of Wilmington, VT, peacefully passed away on the night of July 5, 2024.

Bill's childhood began in the barracks of Quincy, MA, inspiring many stories he had always enjoyed sharing. Eventually, Bill, his older brother Daniel D. Sheehan, and his parents made their way to Webster Street in Quincy, MA. Between the streets of Quincy, Wollaston Beach, and the family cottage on White Horse Beach in Manomet, MA, Bill created memories and friendships that lasted his lifetime. Although he didn't especially love to travel as a child, he nonetheless spent countless hours traveling across America while squeezed in between grandparents, parents, and his brother in the back of a hot car; these trips inspired many great stories that brought to life the grandparents, aunts, and uncles that we never had the pleasure of knowing.

A North Quincy High School graduate of 1961, Bill would tell you that he prioritized his relationships over his studies, which wouldn't surprise anyone who knew him. While in high school, Bill played on the varsity basketball team, letting his speed and agility make up for his height! He also enjoyed playing clarinet and saxophone with the band. Although being a student challenged Bill, his commitment to higher education never wavered. He graduated from Bentley College in 1968, passed the CPA exam in 1972, and earned his Juris Doctor degree from Suffolk Law School in 1974. In addition to his studies, he served in the Army National Guard. He was an excellent example of perseverance and professional accomplishment.

Bill enjoyed many activities and hobbies, such as tennis, where he organized and presided over many tennis clubs and tennis teams; pick-up basketball, which also provided fodder for some of his best stories; scuba diving, which he picked up later in life, proving his sense of adventure. He also cherished having adventures while traveling with friends, bowling in his younger years, boating, kayaking, pickleball, cribbage, taking walks in hopes of chatting up neighbors and giving cookies to his fur friends, his beloved puppy Clancy, going to Squires with his buddies, and having "breaFkast" with the Romeos. Blessed with the gift of the gab, he connected with many folks around Marshfield, such as his friends at the Post Office, the Bank, the Senior Center, and anyone else who was game for a great conversation.

Above all, Bill enjoyed his work. When his oncologist asked about his life goals for the time he had left, Bill earnestly replied, "To complete another tax season." Comments like these always endeared Bill to everyone who knew him. However, the tax season paperwork was not the only thing he looked forward to; he also loved catching up with his clients; tax season was the social event of the year for him. Bill loved the opportunity to help others with their taxes, financial questions, and legal concerns.
