William Thomas "Bill" Ryder, 79, of Marshfield, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on March 17, 2026. Born on September 1, 1946, in Boston, Massachusetts, Bill lived a life filled with dedication to his family and a passion for his work and hobbies.
Bill graduated from Hyde Park High School and Wentworth were he obtained his construction license. He went on to build a career at Boston Edison, where he held many positions over the years. His work ethic and commitment were evident throughout his professional life.
Family was at the heart of Bill’s world. He is survived by his sister and brother-in-law Deborah and Scott Leddin; his brother-in-law Peter Carpenter; his five children Karen and Robert Habel Jr, Scott and Kerri Ryder, Judi-Ann and Edward M Barrett Jr, David Ryder, and Christopher and Barbara Ryder; as well as his eleven grandchildren Christian, Darby, Bryan & Kaitlyn Ryder; Jonathan, Brendan & Jason Barrett; Joseph Ryder Habel & Matthew Robert Habel; Ciara & Caroline Ryder. Bill was also blessed with three great-grandchildren Aubrielle, Flynn & Liam Ryder. Additionally, he leaves behind nephews and nieces Peter, Todd & David Carpenter; Connor Leddin; and Kendall Shafer.
He was predeceased by his parents Michael Ryder and Barbara Johnson; his siblings Michael Ryder, Barbara Carpenter, Karen Ryder; and other cherished family members who preceded him in death.
In his free time, Bill found joy in working on cars—a hobby that reflected both his skillful hands and creative mind. Above all else, he treasured spending time with his family. Whether surrounded by children or grandchildren or sharing stories with extended relatives, Bill’s presence brought warmth to every gathering.
May William Thomas "Bill" Ryder’s memory bring comfort to all who knew him. His legacy of love for family and dedication to hard work will remain in the hearts of those he touched.
A Wake will be held on Thursday, March 26, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the MacDonald Funeral Home, 1755 Ocean Street in Marshfield. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, March 27, 2026, from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM at St. Christine's Church, 1295 Main Street in Marshfield, followed by burial in the Forest Hills Cemetery, 95 Forest Hills Ave in Boston.
