Wyn (Flanagan) O'Shea of Marshfield, formerly of Scituate and Milton, passed away on June 14, 2022 at the age of 92. Beloved wife of the late Joseph O'Shea, she is survived by her children, Kathleen Steele (Lew) and Kevin O'Shea and many nieces and nephews. Wyn was predeceased by her brother Joseph and sisters Rita and Catherine.
Wyn was born in Winchester, MA and grew up there and in South Boston with her brother Joe and sister Rita. She worked as a secretary at the National Fire Protection Association in Boston. Later, after meeting and marrying Joe, she managed his law office and had two children.
Wyn and Joe bought a cottage in Scituate before they brought their home in Milton. They loved Scituate and took much pleasure in having scheduled and impromptu family cookouts. They shared a love of family, dancing, reading and relaxing in Scituate. She spent 50 wonderful years in Scituate.
A lifelong walker, she was known to walk daily to the lighthouse, the harbor and much further – at first with Joe and then with other walker friends from the Scituate neighborhood. She enjoyed many trips to destinations in the U.S. and the Caribbean with Joe. They were joined many times by Joe's brother Dan and his wife Claire. They also spent winter vacations with friends Pat and Jim at their home in the Keys.
Nothing was too big a challenge for Wyn. When Joe got sick she nursed him through many ups and downs – through hospital stays and dialysis treatments. The family was told by his doctor that she kept him going for many years longer than expected. During this same time she was also a daily emotional support for an adult child through a serious illness. She sold her house without a realtor at the age of 79 and spent 2 years (winters on the ocean included) in her Scituate cottage.
After Joe's death Wyn would travel with lifelong friend Ann White to various destinations in Europe. She had a ball with Ann – they shared a lifetime of memories and created more on these trips. She went everywhere she wanted to go to.
She bought a 55+ condo in Marshfield at 81 years old and loved to tell people she "just squeaked in" on the age requirement. She had wonderful neighbors at her new condo and loved the annual cookouts and various parties. Being a fitness enthusiast all her life, she went to senior fitness at the Marshfield Senior Center where she had a wonderful circle of friends – the closest being Lee Foote. She loved them all.
Wyn loved to read, walk, exercise, socialize and laugh! She would laugh at your worst joke – making you feel like the best comedian and was so interested in others that many people found themselves talking more about themselves. She will be missed by all that knew her.
The family would like to thank the Village at Proprietors Green assisted living staff and Autumn Hospice for their love, support and compassionate care for the last years and especially the last days of Wyn's life.
