Obituary

Yann Roach, 68, of Marshfield, Massachusetts, passed away on February 13 th , 2023 after an unprecedented 13 ½ year battle with pancreatic cancer.

Yann was born on September 1 st , 1954 to the late Vuon Tann in Battambang, Cambodia. Her life's story is like no other as it is one filled with survival, perseverance, and faith.  As she approached her 20s, Yann was faced with fleeing her war ridden country, as the communist party, the Khmer Rouge, invaded Cambodia by extreme measures of killing and enslaving its civilians to achieve a complete takeover. Yann, a mother of two at the time, swaddled her infant son, Nemith, to the front of her body and with her toddler son, Rith, on her back, crossed a mine field through the jungle in order to reach the refugee camp that would guide her to the United States.

In 1983, after making her way to Massachusetts where she had some family, she met her husband and soulmate, David. Yann fell for David initially due to his talents in music, but it was his kindness and love to her two children, treating them like they were his own, that won her heart. David taught Yann the English language and the American culture, as they spent time together, and shared a mutual Catholic faith that was strong and true. In 1985, they married and went on to have their other two children, Edward and Kerri, as David adopted Nemith and Rith, creating a strong and resilient family.

Through all of life's tribulations, Yann was always a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend who loved to laugh, cook, sing, crochet, or just be completely honest with you, and tell you like it is. Simply put, Yann was an amazing and courageous woman, who's infectious personality and wit will be greatly missed by all.

Yann was predeceased by her husband, David F. Roach and her mother, Vuon Tann. Yann is survived by her children, Thomas (Rith) Roach of Carver, Nicholas (Nemith) Roach and his wife, Christina (Chrissy) of Waldwick NJ, Edward S. Roach and his wife, Jennifer of Plymouth, and Kerri Sherman and her husband Justin of Carver. Yann was a proud Grammy/Nana to her grandchildren, Mia, Evelyn, Bradley, Juliet, Natalie, Nora, and great grandmother to Vito.
